Big Strides for Little Legs: Sponsored Walk 2025

Updated: May 16

In the heart of the Scottish Highlands, compassion is taking its first steps, ten miles of them, to be exact. This June, DMT Dachshund Rescue & Support Group (DMT DRSG) will host our annual charity walk, Big Strides for Little Legs, with a heartfelt mission: to fly five abandoned dachshunds from China and bring them to loving homes in the UK.

The event, set in Aviemore on Saturday, June 7, invites dog lovers, hikers, and supporters from across the country to participate in a sponsored walk around Loch An Eilein and Loch Gamhna (not once but twice!). Participants can opt for the full 10-mile route or a more accessible 5-mile option , both culminating in a celebration at The Old Bridge Inn.

At the centre of the fundraiser are five special dachshunds- Beatrix, Matilda, Juliet, Finn, and Violet- affectionately known as the “literary litter.” The pups were found abandoned at an industrial site in China, where kind-hearted workers kept them safe until DMT DRSG stepped in. Now, we need to raise £18,215 to cover the costs of their international travel.

All are welcome to join, info below:

📍Loch an Eilein, PH22 1QT. Meet in the car park (please note there is a small fee to park your car, they have a card reader at the gatehouse)

🚶We will then walk the Loch an Eilein and Loch Gamhna Circular route which is 5 miles, the route will end back at the car park and those walking 10 miles can go round again.

🍺We will have tables reserved in the beer garden at The Old Bridge Inn afterwards (PH22 1PU- 10 min drive from the walk) and sandwiches will be provided. Please join us to celebrate this wonderful charity ❤️🥂
